Fat: What no one is telling you. 2007. 1 videodisc (90 min.). This documentary explains our psychological responses to food, shares new scientific knowledge about hunger, eating, and human metabolic operation. Shows how external pressures such as oversized restaurant portions and the unending barrage of food advertisements make fighting fat so difficult. Also features real Americans telling their stories about the biological barriers, cultural habits, and economic realities contributing to their struggle to get fit. DVD 5505 and Streaming video

The human digestive system. 2006. 1 videodisc (18 min.). Food must be digested by the body so that all useful nutrients can be absorbed. With endoscopic pictures, diagrams, photomicrographs, and laboratory experiments, this program shows how the human digestive system works. DVD 6794

My big fat diet. 2008. 1 videodisc (42 min.). Documentary about how the Namgis First Nation of Alert Bay takes up a dietary challenge and returns to a traditional style of eating for a year. The rules were simple: eat lots of protein, fat and vegetables; give up sugar, junk food and starch. DVD 8075

Poisoned waters. 2009. 1 videodisc (115 min.). "More than three decades after the Clean Water Act, two iconic waterways -- the great coastal estuaries of Puget Sound and the Chesapeake Bay -- are in perilous condition. With polluted runoff still flowing in from industry, agriculture and massive suburban development, scientists fear contamination to the food chain and drinking water for millions of people. Super size me. 2004. 1 videodisc (ca. 96 min.). Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock embarks on a journey to find out if fast food is making Americans fat. For 30 days he can't eat or drink anything that isn't on McDonald's menu; he must eat three square meals a day, he must eat everything on the menu at least once and supersize his meal if asked. He treks across the country interviewing a host of experts on fast food and a number of regular folk while downing McDonald's to try and find out why 37% of American are now overweight. Spurlock's grueling diet spirals him into a metamorphosis that will make you think twice about picking up another Big Mac. DVD 955

Sweet misery: a poisoned world. 2005. 1 videodisc (95 min.). Explores questions raised about Aspartame sweetener including whether there is a connection between the artificial sweetener and illnesses such as brain cancer and multiple sclerosis.  Also discusses the process by which Aspartame received FDA approval and various reports of health risks.
