Le Grand Blanc de Lambarene. 1995 1 online resource (1 video file (1 hr. 28 min. 56 sec.)).  This feature reconstructs the last year of the life of the missionary Dr. Albert Schweitzer from an African perspective. GABON / CAMEROON / FRANCE. Streaming video.

Moolaadé. 2004, 2 videodiscs (124 min.). Set in a small village, four young girls face ritual "purification" decide to flee to the household of Collâe Ardo Gallo Sy, a strong-willed woman who has managed to shield her own teenage daughter from the mutilation. Collâe invokes the time-honored custom of moolaadâe (sanctuary) to protect the fugitives, and tension mounts as the ensuing stand-off pits Collâe against village traditionalists. This endangers the prospective marriage of her daughter to the heir-apparent to the tribal throne. SENEGAL / BURKINA FASO / MOROCCO / TUNISIA / CAMEROON / FRANCE.  DVD 3862.

Quartier Mozart. 1992, 1 videodisc (80 min.).  Library of African cinema: New African cinema. Film uses traditional Cameroonian folk beliefs to explore the sexual politics of an urban neighborhood. Covering 48 hours in a working class neighborhood in Yaounde, Cameroon's capital, it recounts the education of a young schoolgirl. Queen of the 'Hood is a proud young girl who doesn't want to be taken advantage of by men. She befriends a local sorceress who helps her enter the body of a young man, My Guy, so she can discover for herself the real "sexual politics" of the quarter. Meanwhile, the sorceress assumes the shape of Panka, a familiar comic figure in Cameroonian folklore with sexual powers. Traditional wit and music-video style are used to create an imaginary world where women's wisdom and witchcraft help them achieve a balance of power with the men they both love and struggle against. Sango Malo = The village teacher. 1990, 1 videodisc, 1 streaming video (94 min.). A young teacher, Sango Malo, comes to a rural village with ideas of promoting rural development through practical education. He clashes with the established headmaster, who insists on a traditional French-style education. Malo alienates many of his supporters through his impatience and is arrested by the army on the behalf of the village chief, storeowner and priest. But he has taught well and the the villagers carry on his ideas without him. CAMEROON / BURKINA FASO. DVD 6862. Streaming video.
