Repositories for Public Domain Images

There are many ways of finding Public Domain images, but here are some places to get you started.

  • Public Domain Review - A large list of collections of images in the public domain. Includes collections of photos, fine art, scientific illustrations, and film.
  • Google Image Search - Filter your search by navigating to “More” under the search bar, selecting “Usage Rights”, and choosing “Creative Commons License”.
  • Google Arts and Culture - A great source of curated artworks.
  • British Library's Flickr Collection - The British Library shares millions of public domain images that you are encouraged to use for projects. 
  • Unsplash - Free, high resolution images for use in projects. Attribution is encouraged but not required.
  • Pixabay - A large collection of images, videos, and illustrations that are available to use for free. Attribution is encouraged but not required.
  • Creative Commons Content Search - Search across many different platforms at once with this tool to find free-to-use content.
  • Flickr Commons - Search through images shared under a Creative Commons license.
  • Wikimedia Commons: A collection of videos, images, sounds available for use under a Creative Commons License.
  • The Noun Project - A collection of free icons and stock photos.
