Register for an Account

  1. Visit our account registration page
  2. Click on 'Create Account'
  3. Register using your AU email address and click 'Continue'
    If you do not use your american.edu email address your account will be deleted
  4. Create a password

Note: If you have an existing paid NYT subscription linked to your AU email address, you must cancel it before linking your account to the library's subscription by contacting Customer Care by email at customercare@nytimes.com, calling 800-591-9233, or chat

Access Your Account

Once you have registered, visit nytimes.com, click the blue Log In button, and sign in to your account.

What's Included?

The library provides NYTimes.com Academic Pass accounts to AU students, faculty and staff.
Academic Pass accounts include:

  • Unlimited access to archived articles published from 1981 to present
  • Up to 5 articles per day of articles published between the years 1923 through 1980
  • Access via iOS and Android apps.

Academic Passes do not include e-reader editions, NYT Cooking, or New York Times Games content.

Historical New York Times

For unlimited access to historical issues of the New York Times from 1851 to four years ago, go to the library's homepage, click on the 'Databases' tab of the unified search tool and search for "New York Times - Historical".
