National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)
Established by Congress in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government. To date, the NEA has awarded more than $4 billion to support artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation for the benefit of individuals and communities.
National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.
National Institute of Health (NIH)
A part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the nation’s medical research agency. The NIH invests over $31.2 billion annually in medical research, 80% of which is awarded through grants.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
An independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science." With an annual budget of about $6.9 billion, the NSF is the funding source for approximately 20% of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities.
