Indeed, Zac shows even more queer signs come adolescence, aping David Bowie's glam looks and sexually experimenting with a boy from the neighborhood. The "Ins" ("Inseparables") style themselves after French pop stars, attend school, have all the girls--but no record player. Their rivals, the "Kings," style themselves after African-American blues legends, they work as fishermen, don't have any girls--but they do have a record player. In turn-of-the-century Paris, a romantic affair between an alluring underworld courtesan and a young carpenter's assistant turns tragic when he is accused of murder. In an open-air dance hall, the members of Leca's gang are relaxing with their ladies. One of the ladies, Marie, meets Manda, who is a carpenter by trade. Marie's man Roland is a jealous sort and does not like the idea of Marie and Manda becoming friendly, and Leca himself has his eye on Marie. César. 2007. The Fanny trilogy. 1 videodisc (134 min.). This is the last film of Pagnol's famous Fanny trilogy, and was the only one not based on a play by Pagnol. Ceux qui m'aiment prendront le train = Those who love me can take the train. 2000. 1 videodisc (122 min.). A minor painter, son of a wealthy family has died and wanted to be buried in his home town of Limoges. Those who loved him in various ways take the train and review their lives on the way to bury him. About a dozen lovers, friends, and students of a famous artist travel from Paris to his hometown of Limoges for his funeral. On the train ride there, the mourners review their own lives. Le chant des mariées = The wedding song . 2010. 1 videodisc (100 min.). Two 16-year-old girls have an intense friendship while living in Nazi-occupied Tunis in 1942. Nour is a Muslim who eagerly anticipates her wedding to a handsome cousin. Myriam is a French Jew who is furiously resisting her betrothal to a much older doctor. Exiled from France for his exploits, underworld kingpin Abel Davos has been living for nearly a decade in Milan, even acquiring a family. In spite of the death sentence hanging over his head, Davos wants to return with them to France. His old mob cronies have gone bourgeois and affluent, reluctant to help, sending just one young thief, Eric Stark, to his aid. An exploration of the importance of loyalty and honor among thieves, this film shows exactly what it is stand-up guys stand up for. While Clement embodies reactionary machismo, with his sudden outbursts of brutality, Paul is an easy-going, gentle pacifist. The complete Jean Vigo. 2011. The Criterion collection2 videodiscs (161 min.). Even among cinema's greatest legends, Jean Vigo stands alone. The son of a notorious anarchist, Vigo had a brief but brilliant career making poetic, lightly surrealist films before his life was cut tragically short by tuberculosis at age twenty-nine. Like the daring early works of his contemporaries Jean Cocteau and Luis Bun uel, Vigo's films refused to play by the rules. This set includes all of Vigo's titles. HOME USE COLLECTION DVD 9080
Le confessionnal. 2004? 1 videodisc (101 min.). Pierre Lamontagne returns to Quebec after three years in China for his father's funeral to find that his adopted brother is missing. This disappearance sets up a parallel story as the film moves back to 1950's. Cousin cousine. 2007. 1 videodisc (91 min.). "During the chaos of a large wedding replete with drunken relatives, two cousins by marriage meet for the first time. When Batala, the owner of a small publishing company, disappears with the firm's capital, the employees band together to take over the company and collectively publish a series of comic books written by Monsieur Lange, one of the employees. Based on the adventures of a mythical cowboy, "Arizona Jim," the comic books are instant best sellers, and the cooperative continues its great success by producing films based on the character of "Arizona Jim." In Dãoláe we see how the media cynically collaborate with the lottery to divert desperate people's economic aspirations into a spectacle, a contemporary combination of 'bread and circus.' When the boys decide to up their odds by robbing the lottery kiosk, the gentle comedy turns tragic"--Container. Daratt = Dry season. 2008. Great African films: Great African films. 1 videodisc (96 min.). The government of Chad granted amnesty to war criminals in 2006, following forty years of civil strife. Atim, age 16, is given a revolver by his grandfather so that he may find and kill the man who killed his father. Atim quickly locates Nassara, now married and living as a baker in a nearby village. Pretending to be looking for work, Atim is hired as an apprentice baker. Despite his disgust, Atim gradually recognizes the father figure he has always needed. Nassara sees the teenager as a potential son and one day proposes adoption. DVD 9168

L'emploi du temps = Time out. 2002? 1 videodisc (128 min.). The movie tells the story of Vincent, a middle-class family man recently fired from his drab, middle-management job. Unable to tell his family about his firing, Vincent spends his workdays driving around the French countryside - "business trips" he tells his wife - keeping intact the reassuring routine of going to work and coming home to his wife and kids. As his family grows suspicious of his evasive behavior, Vincent is forced to spin a new tale, pretending to get a job working for the U.N. In a bid to keep the money coming in, he recruits old friends to invest in an imaginary emerging-markets investment scheme. Vincent also falls in with Jean-Michel, a black market dealer whose ignominious past serves as an ominous warning for Vincent's present course.
