Using the External Disc Drive

External disc drives are available at the Circulation/Course Reserves desk. They can be used to watch DVDs if your laptop does not have an internal DVD drive.
Before you can watch a DVD, you must have player software installed on your laptop. If you do not already, below are instructions for installing VLC Player, one of the more common media players.

  1. Go to www.videolan.org/vlc/#download and download the app for your operating system.
  2. Install the VLC Media Player on your laptop.
  3. Plug in the external disc drive.
  4. Press the Open/Close button and insert the DVD.
  5. If the DVD does not automatically play, open the VLC Media Player from your desktop.
  6. Select Media > Open Disc
  7. Chose the DVD location and the disc should begin playing.
