Finding scholarly books and journals typically requires researchers either to search a library catalog, or to browse a library's stacks by call number -- often both. For those unfamiliar with LC call numbers, here are a few useful ranges:

• P 87-96: Mass media communication 
• PN 1990-1997: Broadcasting, television, film, & radio 
• PN 4699-5639: Journalism and the periodical press 
• TR: Photography and photojournalism  
• Z 40-115: Communication writing  
• Z 657-661: Freedom of the press, censorship.
