The database IMF eLibrary - Data includes all the statistical databases from the International Monetary Fund. The emphasis is on financial and trade data from countries around the world.
The key to using the IMF eLibrary - Data is knowing where to start. To be able to select the exact data you want, avoid using the "Predefined Data Reports" which presents pre-selected data; instead, use "Build your own Query."
For an example, I would like to find trade figures between China and Chile from the years 2000 to 2014.
For trade data between countries, select the Direction of Trade Statistics.
STEP 1.
Select the Country.
STEP 2.
Select the Concept. In this case, it is the export and the import of goods.
STEP 3.
Select the Partner Country. This would be Chile.
STEP 4.
Select the Unit. It is only in US dollars.
STEP 5.
Select the Time. In this case, we want the years 2000 to 2014.
STEP 6.
There are two options to download the data. The easier option is to select "View data" and then download the data. The more cumbersome option is to select "Download" because one has to create an account and log in..
