Local Note Structure

When a note refers to a specific copy (even if only one copy is held), begin with “American University copy” or something more specific as necessary, followed by a colon.

Examples:

  • American University copy: signed by the author.
  • American University Special Collections copy: no. 951 of 1000 registered and numbered sets.
  • One American University copy (non-retention): inscribed by the author.

Use 590 unless a more specific field is available. List of local fields available here.

  • Signed/inscribed copies
  • Honors capstone pilot project
  • Numbered copy of a limited run
  • Microform notes
  • Errata
  • Student Success Collection
  • V. 4 from 1969 reprint
  • AU faculty author.
